For Jacksonville Christian Academy the '05 season was our best to date. I had the privilege of coaching a team with a wide range of talent and experience. Our seven seniors were excellent role models for our up-and-coming volleyball stars.     The Conquerors finished the regular season with a respectable 10-2 record. This was the first year that our team beat our rival, Gramercy, in volleyball. We split our games against them this season and had to play a play-in game at Swansboro Middle School. After a two hour volleyball match and the game tied at two we ended up losing the tie breaker game and finishing second in our district.     Going into the state play-offs we beat Ahoskie Christian School, then had to play Riverside Christian from Lumberton. Riverside beat the Conquerors 0-2 and sent us into the losers’ bracket. First on deck was Bethel Christian Academy. They went down to our Conquerors 2-0. Fellowship was next on the bracket and went down 2-0. Avenging a previous loss we beat Lumberton 2-1. We fought long and hard coming from the losers’ bracket, but went down in our final game against Gramercy. Our record this year was 14 wins, 6 losses, finishing second in the state.     We have been able to keep a good group of girls over the years, which is unusual in Jacksonville because we lose so many people due to military transfer. That has given us an advantage in that we play together well. Our sophomores and juniors practiced hard and will do an excellent job filling the shoes that the seniors are leaving behind.
