I bring great tidings of great news! Not only is today Easter, but I figured out how to upload pictures
onto these pages. Check back at days 3 and 4 to see the first few. I'll add the rest after we get back from
church. We were supposed to be up at 8:30 in order to leave by 10:00, but we didn't get up until about 9:00
and I didn't find out what time it was until 9:40. The students are up there scrambling to get ready as I am
typing this message, so hopefully we'll be gone by 10:20. The service starts at 11:00, but we really wanted
to get there by 10:30 to get a seat. Check back later today for Saturday's update. We met the best Pizza Hut
employees in the entire corporation, but I'll have to tell you about it later. Look for an update to this
article around 9:00 AM your time, Lord willing.
Well, that was interesting. Details tomorrow, but I just talked to Odé and his wife (the couple
from South Carolina) and they are going to join us tonight for a worship service in our room.
It will be going on at 7:00 our time, which is 12:00 your time. We got an unexpected daylight
savings bump this morning, which explains our late start this morning. Pray for us that the
Lord will allow us to be good witnesses. Perhaps some other guests here at the hotel will join
us. I don't know where they would sit, but we'll find room, if necessary. More on that
tomorrow.
I've tried everything I know to do and I cannot get the pictures to show up on the website
pages. To quote the hotel owner, "Yes, they are on that computer, but they are not on this
computer." Anyway, trust me when I say that we've got hundreds of great pictures to show
you when we get back.
As for yesterday, we had a great time at Les Invalides, a veteran's hospital built by
Louis XIV. We saw Napoleon's tomb and the chapel. From there, we went on a mad adventure to
change money. No bank was open, so we walked toward the shopping area, Blvd. Haussman. The
first huge department store we stopped at was Printemps. They no longer change money.
We walked toward Galleries LaFayette and finally found a place to change money at an
incredibly good rate. We changed cash at one place for €.74 and traveler's cheques at another
for €.7256 - no commission! Too bad I had already changed almost all of mine. By the way,
your children are doing an excellent job of budgeting their money. Of course, it helps that
they get in free everywhere and I only let them eat twice a day, but I'm still very proud
of them.
Next came one of the best moments of the trip so far. We found a Pizza Hut and headed
toward it. After a short walk in the rain we got there, only to find that it is a carry-out only
restaurant. We got 16 pieces of pepperoni pizza, 8 breadsticks (cheese-filled), 10 hot wings, and
4 liters of Pepsi for €5.50 each. To top it all off, he broke the rules and let us eat it on the floor - inside, out of the rain. Afterward, the Pizza Hut crew took several pictures with us
and even got a camera to take one of their own. I've decided to make it a mission to see to it
that these guys are put in charge of the entire Pizza Hut management structure in France. If
you have some spare time on your hands, see if you can find the # and/or email of the corporate
headquarters of Pizza Hut. By the way, I've been absolutely astonished at how polite and
helpful everyone has been. I lived here an entire year and never heard a single "thank you". I've not even been here a week and I've heard it at least five times and "my pleasure" a few times
as well. The Lord has been so good to us!
After going back to the hotel, we skipped Montmartre (we'll try to pick it up Mon or Wed),
we went to the Stade de France to see the World Cup qualifier between France and Switzerland.
It was an awesome sight - 80,000 people all screaming support for their respective teams.
The sportsmanship displayed was wonderful! At the beginning of the game, a youth team from
each county lined up in front of the other team's players. Both sides applauded for the other's
national anthem, and fans cheered when either team made a great play! The French dominated
the game with their precision passing, but the Swiss defense held on for a 0-0 tie. Despite
the lack of scoring, it was a very exciting game. We had no problem getting back on the RER
and got back to the hotel around 2 AM. After devotions we went to bed.
Well, I've been on here long enough. Your children will probably be calling you today around
2-4 your time. Continue to remember us in your prayers.
