Our senses today were assaulted on a variety of fronts. First, we headed to the
glorified porn shop that is better known as the Musèe du Louvre. After passing through
various sculptures and paintings depicting people who had obviously never heard of clothes,
we made it to the religious art section. That was really beautiful and there were lots
of aritifacts from the Middle Ages, as well. We saw the scabbard of Charlemagne's sword,
Napoleon's crown, lots of stained glass picture windows and about thirty paintings of Jesus
on the cross. We walked through the apartments of Napoleon III which were very ornate.
We made it to the Mona Lisa and headed out of there.
Outside, we took in the beautiful architecture (which is much more impressive than the art inside)
and looked for somewhere to eat. On the way out, some man that we passed was playing rap music. After
getting a bite to eat, we got back on the metro and headed toward the Arc de Triomphe. This time it was
our noses that were assaulted. It is truly indescribable to someone who has not been here. Poor Ashley's
nose always seems to be at armpit height.
We got to the Arc and it was worth the ride. We got pictures of it with a beatiful sunset behind it.
On the way there, we saw the Eiffel Tower with an incredibly beautiful rainbow beside it. We got a picture,
but the flash was on. After taking pictures from in front of the Arc, we travelled under the street to cross
to the arc itself. The students and I walked over 400 steps to the top and took more pictures at night. I
have been trying all morning to add them to the website, but I have not yet figured out how.
We finished the night with a wonderful meal at a very nice Chinese restaurant close by. After devotions,
we went to bed and prepared for tomorrow's adventure: the Palais de Versailles. More info on that tomorrow.
I would tell you about our other adventures changing money (I got to bargain for a much better rate than the
one posted) and rescuing a British couple from being kicked out of their room, but other people want to use the
internet. Another update comes tomorrow. Until then, au revoir.
