What a beautiful day! It was the perfect day to go to the Eiffel Tower!
We could see for many miles in every direction. I'm glad it wasn't raining, because
we stood in several lines for several hours to get to the top. The view truly is
breathtaking. We took lots of pictures of the tower, during the day and night.
We started the day with a French breakfast from the local bakery. Pain au chocolat,
croissants, bread, cheese, orange juice, apple juice, milk and water. The kids were not impresses with
the milk or the cheese, but they liked the rest. Five or six miles of walking later, they
convinced me to let them stop to eat at McDonalds. I made them order in French, but the
menu was half in English anyway, so it wasn't hard.
We got to the American Church of Paris a few minutes after 7:30. Unfortunately, because
this is Easter week, the service schedule is different. The service had just ended when we got there.
We did get to hear the choir prqcticing for this Sunday and they sounded incredible. One of
the ushers gave us some information about the church and told us to make sure we get there
at least 30 minutes early. He said that they normally have 700 people in attendance but they
are expecting about 1400 this Sunday.
Since we were in the area we stopped by the Eiffel Tower again and took pictures of it
at night. We caught the last metro back to the hotel and let the kids use the phone cards
that we had bought earlier. That process took about two hours because it took a while to
figure out how to use the card and I wanted to make sure we got the best rate. To make
matters worse, you need to use a pay phone most of the time (since there are only three
outside lines from the hotel) and the nearest phones are about 1/2 mile away. I say "phones",
but really there is only one that works with the method that provides the best rate, so
we were waiting for quite a while.
The night ended with devotions and a new round of pleas to get something to eat. This,
of course, fell on deaf ears. Tomorrow, we plan to see the Musée du Louvre or the Palais
de Versailles, depending on the weather. I will update the sight again tomorrow, Lord willing.
